How Hot Is Hot? Our Heat Levels, Honestly

Every bottle carries a heat number out of five. These are our own, they come off our trade sheet, and they are deliberately not inflated.

Rucu is a 0. It is annatto and has no chilli in it. Spicy BBQ is a 2, sweet and smoky, the one children usually get away with.

Papaya is a 2.5 and is our most popular sauce on the island. Mango, Pineapple, Habanero and Madame all sit at 3, which is genuine warmth built around flavour rather than pain.

Assplosive is a 4. Ghost Pepper is a 5 and means it; a little goes a very long way, and we would rather say so than have you find out over dinner.

If you are buying blind, a 2.5 is the safe answer. If you already eat hot sauce daily, start at 3.
